Mounties Lose Heartbreaker In NAIA Opening Round Finale

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - No. 10 and No. 1 seeded Eastern Oregon was back in action Thursday as they took on the No. 13 and No. 2 seeded Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett College in the NAIA Softball National Tournament Opening Round finals. Eastern’s season came to an end on a walk-off Grizzly single in the bottom of the seventh by a score of 1-0. 

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when Morgan McQuagge of Georgia Gwinnett delivered a single up the middle, driving in Lindzie Owen for the game's game winning and only run. Kaylie Hoskins, put up another strong performance, allowing just one run on one hit over 6.1 innings pitched. The Grizzlies' Annalise Jarvis was also impressive, pitching a complete game shutout while allowing six hits and striking out five batters.

With the loss, the Mountaineers were eliminated from the NAIA Softball National Tournament, ending the 2024 season.

Eastern had an impressive 39-10 overall record that included a Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship and a No. 1 overall seed for the NAIA Softball National Tournament. Their .796 winning percentage marks the second-best in program history falling just short of the 2000 season that saw the Mountaineers finish 37-9 with an .804 winning percentage. 10 losses on the season also marks the second lowest total in program history behind the 2000 team.
