CORVALLIS, Ore. – A successful first day of the 2024 Cascade Collegiate Conference Softball Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, was completed. The tournament resumes Saturday morning with the first two elimination games at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The two undefeated teams will face off at 2 p.m.

#4 seed Southern Oregon University def. #5 seed University of British Columbia
Game 1: SOU won 7-1. The opening game of the softball tournament began close before the Raiders ran away with the win. The T-Birds had hope in the top of the third, only down by a run with the help of Keona Nordquist’s lone RBI. Southern Oregon responded quickly, with the help of a British Columbia error, resulting in a three run, inside the park home run. Katie Machado got the win on the mound, only allowing one earned run in four innings. SOU out hit UBC 13-4, Hannah Clavelle had two hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Raiders.

#6 seed Carroll College def. #3 seed College of Idaho
Game 2: CC won 3-1. The Fighting Saints opened its post season tournament with dominate fashion, earning the first upset over the Yotes. Carroll was perfect in the field and out hit C of I 7-4. Alyssa Lybbert went 2-for-3 at the plate while Kenna Thomas recorded two RBIs for the Saints. Kennedy Venner pitched a complete game on the mound, striking out six batters and only letting up one earned run. Lexi Navarrete paced the Yotes with two hits.

#4 seed Southern Oregon University def. #1 Oregon Tech
Game 3: SOU won 5-3. The second tournament upset of the day marked SOU’s first time defeating OIT this season. The Raiders were errorless in the field and out hit the Owls 12-7. Oregon Tech earned its runs late in the game, with the help of Malia Mick, who had a perfect game at the plate and recorded two RBIs. In the circle, Katie Machando earned her second win on the day while pitching a complete game and striking out three batters. Five Raiders got a multiple hit game, including Sarah Kerling who went 2-for-3 at the plate.

#2 seed Eastern Oregon University def. #6 seed Carroll College
Game 4: EOU won 2-1. This marks the Mounties 5th victory over the Saints this season, but Carroll out hit Eastern 5-3 in postseason play. It was a slow offensive game that resulted in a pitching duel. Kenna Thomas got two hits and scored the Saints lone run. Kaylie Hoskins got the win in the circle, she did not allow an earned run and struck out 13 batters in 5.1 innings. Kelly Monaghan recorded a hit and the Mounties lone RBI to lead at the plate.
