PRESCOTT, Ariz. – No. 25-ranked Southern Oregon deposited a pair of first-half goals and kept Benedictine Mesa (Ariz.)'s attack quiet all afternoon to notch its fifth consecutive season-opening win, 3-0 on Friday at Embry-Riddle's Varsity Field.
Franco Fasoli scored the first goal and Mustafa Daggig tallied the next two for the Raiders as they debuted 11 new players, four of whom were in the starting lineup.
Fasoli came off the bench to knock in the go-ahead score in the 36th minute. Two minutes later, Daggig got on the board with the help of a Kaito Nakayama assist. Daggig, a sophomore from Portland who also came on as a reserve, made it a two-goal outing seven minutes into the second half when he scored unassisted.
Casey Ruvolo saved Benedictine Mesa's only shot on goal. The Raiders had seven of them.
Dating back to last year, the Raiders have won 10 straight regular-season games.
They play another one at 7:30 p.m. Saturday against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), which is coming off a 12-6-1 season and led College of Idaho at halftime of Friday's matchup that is still in progress.
