CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team was named the first Under Armour Team of the Week of the 2024-25 seasons for August 12 – 18, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced.
After a fantastic run last year, Eastern Oregon was picked to take the title in the CCC preseason poll and ranked No. 3 in the NAIA preseason rating.
This past weekend, EOU started its new season off strong with four wins in Caldwell, Idaho. First on Friday, they swept Arizona Christian University 3-0. The Mountaineers won each set decisively with scores of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-16. Eastern Oregon's offense was highly efficient, posting a .393 hitting percentage with 40 kills against just 5 errors on 89 total attempts. The team’s defense was equally impressive, limiting Arizona Christian to a .200 hitting percentage while tallying 33 digs and 12 blocks.
In the second Friday game, EOU defeated No. 5-ranked Viterbo University 3-1. The Mountaineers took the match with set scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-14, and 25-18. Eastern Oregon's offense was paced by Keira Vaughn who recorded 17 kills on 36 attempts, hitting .306. EOU hit .239 as a team, with 52 kills while holding Viterbo to a .091 hitting percentage.
Eastern Oregon kept it rolling into Saturday, sweeping (RV) Morningside University 3-0. The Mountaineers won the match with set scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 27-25. EOU recorded 39 kills with a .145 hitting percentage and the serving was also effective as they registered seven aces.
In the final game of the weekend, EOU defeated No. 15-ranked Montana Western University 3-1. The Mountaineers took the match with set scores of 25-11, 25-12, 24-26, and 25-10. Eastern Oregon came out with a potent offensive attack, finishing with a .319 hitting percentage and 57 kills. The Mountaineers' balanced effort also included six service aces while limiting Montana Western to a .069 hitting percentage in the victory.
Next weekend, EOU is headed to a tournament in Texas to face more competitive competition.
