CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Corban University volleyball team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for August 19 – 25, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
After an outstanding season last year, Corban was picked No. 2 in the CCC preseason poll and ranked No. 12 in the NAIA preseason rating.
This weekend, Corban continued its new season off strong with three big wins at the Viterbo Volleyball Classic. All of the Warrior’s defeats were against higher ranked teams in the NAIA preseason rating. First on Friday, they won against No. 11-ranked Missouri Baptist University, 3-1. The Warriors ended with scores of 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, and 25-16. A .364 attacking clip on 11 kills and three errors across 22 attacks while restraining MoBap to a .091 percentage in the final set helped lead to the Warriors victory.
In the second Friday game, Corban defeated No. 5-ranked Viterbo University, 3-1. The Warriors took the match with set scores of 16-25, 30-28, 25-16, and 25-20. Outside Hitter Emma Bischoff recorded her second double-double of the day with 13-kills and 12-digs and also added a pair of service aces. The Warriors limited Viterbo to a .013 attack percentage while completing 61 digs and 46 kills to reach the second win of the day.
Corban was victorious in its final game of the weekend against No. 6-ranked Midland University, 3-1. The Warriors won the match with set scores of 25-15, 26-24, 20-25, and 25-22. For the first time all season, the Navy and Gold were finally on the positive side of the service ace totals, tallying five on the day compared to just two for Midland. Twelve more total team kills and assists fueled Corban to the four-set victory, with three of the top four kill leaders being represented by Corban.
Corban will begin its Cascade Conference season next Friday against Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon.
