SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Bushnell men’s and women’s golf teams unofficially began their season on Saturday morning, facing off in an exhibition with Corban University at Pine Ridge Golf Course.
The men played a two-round tournament while the women completed one circuit on the Beacons home course, which will be the site of the Cascade Collegiate Conference opening tournament in just nine days.
On the women’s side, Bushnell led the way with three competitors finishing in the top-five. Freshman Kylee Smith (pictured, right) posted a team-best 82 to take third place, followed by sophomore Jada Richwine and junior Analise Aubin who tied for fourth with matching 83’s.
The Beacons, who will field a full women’s team this season for the first time in three years, also saw the debuts of Hailey Smith (6th, 88), Morgan Schlesinger (7th, 90), and Grace Wetherup (10th, 102).
Corban’s Kristen Senatra won the women’s side with a four-over par 76.
It was a big collegiate debut, albeit in an exhibition, for Beacon men’s freshman Peyton Wiedenmann (pictured, left), winning the 19-man tournament by four strokes with a five-over 149 (76-73—149). He was joined in the top-five by freshman Isaac Wells who tied for fourth (76-78—154).
Four other Beacons also landed in the top-ten, led by Connor Cameron and Ben Lovrod who tied for eighth (156). Talon Larson and Ramsay Gordon tied for tenth with Gordon posting the best round of the day with a 1-under 71 in the morning session.
Also competing for the Beacon men were Jacob Holmes and Trison Hedges (t-12, 159), Cody Adams (14th, 161), and Justin Walton (19th, 186).
Corban had three of the top-five golfers, led by David Henry and Max McDonough who tied for second at 153.
