Mountaineers Men's Soccer Falls to Late Goal in 1-0 Loss to Hope International

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Eastern Oregon Mountaineers were handed a narrow 1-0 defeat against Hope International University on Thursday, September 12. Despite outshooting the Royals 20-14, the Mounties were unable to capitalize on their chances, with a last-minute goal sealing their fate.

The game remained scoreless for most of the 90 minutes as both teams struggled to break through. The Mountaineers applied significant pressure, especially in the second half, recording 12 shots, including six on goal. However, Hope International's goalkeeper Berlin Torres came up with crucial saves, recording four in the second half alone to maintain the shutout.

Eastern Oregon's defense, led by goalkeeper Anthony Lemus, kept the Royals at bay for most of the match. Lemus registered five saves, including key stops in both halves. At the 89:55 mark, Hope International's Jorge Perez found the back of the net with an assist from Aldo Ramirez and Isidro Rios, marking the only goal of the match.

EOU had several opportunities, with Edgar Romero Perez and Angel Sandoval each testing the Royals defense with multiple shots on target. The Mounties were unable to find an equalizer, leaving them with a 0-1 record to start the season.

The match saw a total of seven yellow cards and one red card, with EOU's Pablo Cardenas-Sanchez being sent off at the 89:49 mark.
