WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team secured their first victory of the season with a commanding 2-0 win over the Whitman Blues on Saturday night. The Mountaineers controlled the game throughout, limiting the Blues' shot attempts and benefiting from strong offensive performances by talented underclassmen.
Eastern Oregon struck first in the 37th minute when sophomore Peyton Jacaway scored an unassisted goal to give the Mounties a 1-0 lead. They maintained their composure throughout the first half, limiting Whitman to just three shots, two of which were saved by EOU goalkeeper Rylee Schei.
The Mounties doubled their lead in the 71st minute when freshman Macy Reed found the back of the net, assisted by Darby McDevitt.
Schei finished the game with four saves, securing her second clean sheet of the season. The Mountaineers controlled the tempo, outshooting the Blues 14-7 and putting eight shots on target compared to Whitman's four. Eastern Oregon also maintained 56% possession throughout the match.
Whitman's defense was kept busy throughout the contest, with goalkeepers Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky and Seanee Still combining for six saves.
