SALEM, Ore. – The momentum has officially swung back in favor of the No. 13-ranked Corban University Men's Wrestling team in their Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) rivalry with No. 18-ranked Eastern Oregon University, as the conference foes have now completed their second dual in an eight-day time period that has fallen heavily in favor of the Warriors, with tonight's dual concluding at 26-9. The Navy and Gold secured seven of the ten weight class results in their favor, with a pair of technical falls and a major decision along with four decisions compared to just three decision results for the Mountaineers.
Due to a server issue within TrackWrestling tonight, complete dual results will be made available following a restating session, which will eventually be accessible by clicking HERE.
Entering tonight's dual after holding the Mountaineers (4-7) to the lowest team point total they've ever held them to in program history during their 35-9 beatdown in Cedar Falls, Iowa last Saturday during the NWCA National Duals, the Warriors (7-3) clearly retained their upperhand to establish their first ever multi-dual winning streak against EOU.
After dropping his 125lb weight class during the Warriors' first matchup with the Mounties last weekend, junior Brayden Boyd rebounded with a last second victory over EOU's Jackson Eylar today to kick off the scoring for Corban with a 9-5 decision, yet Eastern Oregon knotted the dual at 3-3 following their own decision win at 133lbs.
A major decision for junior Luke Jensen in the 141-weight class in his first return from injury in multiple weeks was the fire Corban needed to ignite the remainder of their lineup, as sophomore Jr Downing fended off Mountaineers' Jaxon Morlan down the stretch of their back-and-forth 8-5 decision that fell Downing's way.
EOU secured their second decision of the night with a narrow 8-5 win at 157lbs, yet three-straight weight class victories for Corban that began with redshirt senior David Rubio's 20-5 technical fall of Michael Fox, as Rubio moved up a weight class to defeat the No. 17-ranked wrestler at 165lbs. Redshirt junior German Munoz completed a 7-1 decision victory over Mounties' Treven Hokland at 174lbs, while sophomore Isaiah Twait joined Rubio in the technical fall category with his own 21-6 result in the 184-weight class.
While Eastern Oregon was able to replicate their success at 197lbs with Eric Karas securing his second decision over graduate student Hunter James in as many weeks at 4-2, it was redshirt junior Antonio Garcia who stole the show and concluded tonight's dual with a bang, as the No. 11-ranked grappler for the 285 heavyweights matched up with EOU's Nico Rodriguez, the No. 8-ranked wrestler in the nation, and battled to a 2-2 stalemate that resulted in overtime periods. After neither of the two student-athletes could break the tie in the first two overtimes, Garcia secured the takedown he needed with less than five seconds to spare to earn the upset victory and hold the Mountaineers to single-digit team points once again.
