Mountaineers Place Three at Highly Competitive Mike Clock Open

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The No. 20-ranked Eastern Oregon University men’s wrestling team wrapped up its second weekend of competition at the Mike Clock Open, hosted by Pacific University. The event featured programs from the NAIA, NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, as well as the NJCAA, making it a highly competitive early-season tournament.

Three Mountaineers reached the podium, led by Hayden Martin, who placed third, Brode Colwell, who finished sixth, and Wylee Lindeen, who advanced to the fifth-place match but was unable to compete further due to match limits.

Freshmen heavyweight Hayden Martin led the Mountaineers with a third- place finish in a competitive bracket. Martin opened with back-to-back pins (2:03 and 6:34) before defeating L.Clark (Cal Poly Humboldt, Division II) in a 5-1 decision. After a setback to Oregon State’s (Division I) K.McDonnell, Martin battled back through the consolation rounds, pinning D.Barned (CPH) in 1:32 and closing the day with a 4-2 win over Southern Oregon’s J.Tripp to claim third place.

Freshman Brode Colwell had an impressive weekend, placing 6th at 133 pounds. Colwell opened his tournament with a fall in 2:18, followed by an 18-8 major decision. He then battled top-level NCAA Division I and NAIA opponents, falling by major decision (11-1) to Oregon State’s J.Lopez and by a narrow 4-1 decision to Southern Oregon’s Z. Keinonen. Colwell advanced to the 5th place match, but officially finished 6th after a forfeit.

Junior Wylee Lindeen showcased his skill in one of larger brackets of the day, racking up five victories before reaching his match limit in the placement rounds at 174 pounds. Lindeen opened with a 16-4 major decision over Simon Fraser’s ( Division II) C. Harbridge and a 16-1 technical fall against Southern Oregon’s L. Yurko. After a third round loss, Lindeen rebounded with a key 4-1 decision win over teammate Kylan Guerra and 7-3 decision win over CPH’s K. Martinez. Lindeen closed the day with a 10-0 loss, and while reaching the 5th place match, both he and his opponent had reached their match limit for the day, resulting in no official placement determination.

The  Mountaineers return to action on November 23rd, when they travel north to compete at the Spokane Open.
