SALEM, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Women’s Basketball stayed perfect to open the 2025-2026 season, defeating Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) 60-53 on Saturday evening at the Corban Hampton Inn Classic, hosted at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Complex.
The Mounties opened strong, jumping to a 17–12 lead after the first quarter, and held a slim 23–21 advantage at halftime. EOU’s offense came alive after the break, finding their rhythm and hitting three shots from beyond the arc and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line to extend the lead. Despite EOU’s offensive consistency, Embry-Riddle kept the pressure on, nearly matching EOU’s scoring, with just one less point than the Mounties in the third quarter. Despite the Eagles comeback, a balanced attack in the fourth helped the Mounties close our the win and move to 2-0 on the year.
Maggie Smith led the Mounties with 15 points, including three triples, while going 2-for-3 on free throws with a pair of steals. Kelsie Siegner continued her strong weekend performance, posting her second double-double in as many games with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while tallying a game-high four steals and finishing a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. Kaiea Waiwaiole contributed nine points, going 4-of-8 shooting from the field to round out EOU’s top scorers.
As a team, the Mounties forced 22 turnovers, converting them into 20 points. EOU showed its depth, getting 25 points from the bench and dominating inside the paint with 22 points. Despite shooting 29.5% from the field, and 28% on triples, EOU capitalized at the line, going 17-for-22 (77.3%) and limiting themselves to just 14 turnovers – a marked improvement from last night’s season opener.
Eastern Oregon will head to Boise, Idaho this coming Monday, November 3rd, to take on Boise State in an exhibition matchup. Tip-off is set for 12:00 PM MT.
