KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Trenton Blomquist, a sophomore from Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), turned in a dominant performance on the mat over the weekend with a 7-0 record, earning the NAIA Men’s Wrestler of the Week honor.
The 197-pounder posted three wins by fall on Nov. 14, in dual victories over opponents from Westcliff (Calif.), Hope International (Calif.), and Sierra College (Calif.), pinning his opposition in 2:14, 1:58, and 2:19, respectively.
He carried that momentum into the ERAU Mile High Open the next day. Blomquist's first victory of the day was a 19-2 tech fall over Arizona Christian’s Zachariah Fowler, followed by a win by fall (5:15) against Utah Tech’s Cesar Ubico. He then fought to a 4-1 decision over No. 9 Jaren Jackson of Doane (Neb.) in the semifinals.
The sophomore capped his unbeaten week by defeating Diego Morales (Menlo) in the championship match with a decisive 8-1 decision.
