Mounties Fall in Penalty Shootout to Concordia in NAIA Opening Round

OLATHE, Kan. – Eastern Oregon men's soccer saw its undefeated season come to a heartbreaking close on Thursday afternoon, falling to Concordia (Neb.) 4–2 in a penalty shootout after 110 scoreless minutes in the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Opening Round at Pioneer Field.

The Mounties (13-0-6) controlled much of the match, outshooting Concordia 17–9 and generating consistent chances throughout regulation and both overtime periods. Despite the offensive pressure, neither side was able to break through in a defensive battle marked by physical play and resilient back-line performances.

EOU produced several dangerous opportunities across the match, highlighted by four shots from Anthony Macedo and three from Jahrie Gray. The Mounties also registered the lone corner kick of overtime but were unable to convert.

Goalkeeper Anthony Lemus was strong between the posts, making two saves across 110 minutes to preserve the shutout. His counterpart, Inigo Chavarria, matched the effort with two saves of his own as both defenses held firm.

With the match still scoreless after double overtime, the contest moved to a penalty shootout. Gray and Daniel Kropf converted EOU's first two attempts, but the Mounties were unable to capitalize on their final two shots. Concordia converted four of its five penalties to secure the shootout victory, ending Eastern's historic season.

The loss concludes a remarkable campaign for the Mounties. With PK shootouts counting as ties, the Mounties finish the season unbeaten. They captured the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season title for the first time in program history and reached the national tournament for back-to-back seasons.
