Rocky Men’s Soccer Falls to Union Commonwealth 4-0 in the NAIA National Tournament

MCKENZIE, Tenn. - Rocky Men's Soccer saw an accomplished 2025 campaign come to a close in the First Round of the NAIA Tournament, falling 4-0 to Union Commonwealth. 

The first season under Head Coach Milo Downey was a successful one for the Battlin' Bears, finishing with an overall record of 8-3-7, making the CCC Tournament Semifinals for the first time since 2018, and qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time since 2020. 

How It Happened

The Bulldogs tallied an early goal, earning a penalty kick opportunity in the fifth minute following a corner kick. Oriol Gasquez Perez took the chance and converted, giving Union Commonwealth a 1-0 lead. 

Rocky matched the Bulldog effort for the remainder of the half, as both teams totaled four shots and two on goal. The Battlin' Bears were unable to find the net as Union Commonwealth held a 1-0 lead at the half. 

The Bulldogs ran away with the match in the second half, scoring three goals on just five shots. While the Battlin' Bears totaled 12 shot opportunities in the second half, they were unable to connect, as their season concluded with a 4-0 defeat in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament. 

Scoring Summary

The Battlin' Bears outshot the Bulldogs 16-9 in the defeat, including an edge of 7-5 on shots on frame. Both teams had three corner kick opportunities. 

David Russell, Henry Chalkley, and Aaron Lawson all put two shots on goal apiece. 

Union Commonwealth's Gabriel Mendoza, the NAIA leader in save percentage entering Thursday, saved all seven shots he faced in the winning effort.
