LA GRANDE, Ore. – A day removed from a difficult dual against a nationally ranked conference opponent to open their season of competition, the No. 16-ranked Corban University Men's Wrestling program returned to the mats in La Grande and showed out at the Mountaineer Open, hosted by fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) member Eastern Oregon University at Quinn Coliseum. Out of the ten weight class brackets, four of them were claimed by Warriors following some remarkable bounce back performances by several Navy and Gold student-athletes.

"It was a good weekend of wrestling to start our season," shared Warriors' head coach Nolan Harris earlier this evening. "We started off a little bit slow on Saturday and were able to finish strong today. That was indicative of Bo and Jr's performances. They both had matches that didn't go as they had planned on Saturday but were able to recoup and come back today to score a lot of points in 4-0 performances. Both Isaiah and Blake had good showing as well with undefeated performances on the weekend. Ultimately, the weekend served its purpose as a barometer for where we're at thus far in the season and what we need to improve on moving forward."
Senior Brayden Boyd was one of five Warriors to earn podium placements today in La Grande, as he dropped his opening matchup but redeemed himself with three-straight consolation bracket wins to earn a spot in the third-place match, which he narrowly fell in a 9-6 decision to settle for a fourth place finish.
Four different Warriors secured weight class belts this evening in their championship matchups, beginning with senior Blake Runion who was the lone Corban men's wrestling participant in yesterday's dual with No. 16-ranked University of Providence to earn a win. Today, Runion steamrolled his way through the 141-weight class, earning a technical fall, 37-second pin, 4-2 semifinal decision, and 17-3 major decision in the championship bout.
A pair of pins for senior Bo Davis allowed the Salem native to rebound from a tough decision in yesterday's dual with a 149lb weight class title that featured a 14-0 major decision over EOU's Eric Larwin in the bracket semifinals.
Another bounce back outing, this time by junior Jr Downing, saw the 157lber to cruise through his opening and quarterfinal bouts with a pair of technical fouls before an 8-6 decision in the semifinals set him up with a championship matchup, which he handled with ease in a 15-6 major decision.
Finally, junior Isaiah Twait kicked off his 2025-26 campaign with two-straight major decisions and a 5-1 decision in the 184lb weight class finale, clinching his first tournament crown of the year in convincing fashion.
