COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla Women's Basketball struggled out of the gate and lost to NCAA Division-III opponent Whitman of Walla Walla in a non-conference game 83-38 on Wednesday.
The Wolves (2-5) struggled to find their first points of the game and trailed 20-0 before Brooklyn Coe broke the drought with 1:07 left in the first quarter. Whitman improved to 5-3 overall with the victory.
Jaylo Bello led Walla Walla with 16 points on 7-of-20 shooting. Ally Haslam filled up the stat sheet with seven points, four rebounds and three blocks. Sidney Folkenberg had seven rebounds and Delaney Gunther was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc for nine points.
Emma Lena Baker and Kaella Peters had 18 points each for the Blues. Peters scored all of her points from past the 3-point line with a 6-of-8 performance from deep. Briana Andrade just missed out on a double-double with 11 boards and nine points. Holly Morgan added 12 points and four steals and Morgan Montgomery finished with 10 points and four steals.
Whitman outrebounded the Wolves 57-32 and had 26 second chance points off 24 offensive rebounds. The Blues scored from all over the court with 10 3-pointers and 40 points in the paint. Walla Walla scored nine points off the bench, all by Gunther, and eight points off turnovers.
After a 1-for-8 performance from the 3-point line by Walla Walla, the Wolves improved to 4-of-11 in the second half.
