ASHLAND – Only one match saw a third set as No. 10-ranked College of Idaho swept through two opponents and No. 7 Southern Oregon swept one in Cascade Collegiate Conference beach volleyball action Friday at the Raider Beach Courts.
The Yotes (4-1 overall, 4-1 CCC) were 5-0 winners against Northwest (Wash.) (2-4, 2-4) to start the day and Simpson (Calif.) (0-4, 0-4) a couple hours later. The Raiders (4-6, 2-2) discarded Northwest without any hiccups in the day's final dual.
SOU and C of I meet for the first time on Saturday in the second part of a four-dual afternoon featuring the same squads.
SOU's closest call was a 21-16, 23-21 decision from No. 2 pair Grace Gulbrandsen and Linda Conceicao over Northwest's Masa Spela Jarc and Aubree Dees.
C of I's top pair of Haley Hoopes and Sydney Dews completed its perfect day with a tight 21-19, 21-19 defeat of Northwest's Caitlyn James and Kylie Lunday. Lauren Gauna and Dariya Tlevlessova, the Yotes' No. 5 pair, kept the Eagles off the board by rallying after a 24-22 setback in the first frame, winning 15-6 in the tiebreaker.
