Day Two Struggles Result in Fifth-Place Finish for Corban Men’s Golf in Northern California

REDDING, Calif. – After jumping out to a sub-300 team round in the opening round of the Simpson Spring Invite, which was hosted by Simpson University, the Corban University Men's Golf team was unable to replicate their day one success and fell from their runner-up placement to a fifth-place finish among the ten teams in action at the Riverview Golf & Country Club.

"Well day two was unfortunately a struggle for our men," Warriors' assistant coach Evan Inglesby stated. "Across the board, we weren't quite as crisp as yesterday and fell back a few spots in the standings. Andy and Owen led us today and the weather was terrific yet again. Sour taste to leave on that, but overall, a great trip!"

Entering the day just four strokes off the team lead, the Warriors (598) were unable to keep their consistent gameplay from Monday to carry into the second and final round throughout Tuesday morning and into the afternoon, as they slid to fifth as a team with Southwestern Oregon Community College (586) taking the team title by one stroke over fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) member Southern Oregon University (587). Bushnell University (591) finished in third, while Oregon Tech (597) was just a single stroke ahead of the Navy and Gold.

The top ten was extremely crowded in this week's tourney on the men's side, as junior Brayden Sparkman finished in a five-way tie for seventh place at +4 overall. Sophomore Owen Heath (+5) retained his top 15 finish in a four-way tie for 12th and a single stroke behind Sparkman, while sophomore David Harvey and junior Andy Austen both tied for 30th at +10, with Austen shaving four strokes off his day one round. Finally, senior Max McDonough (+11) tied for 33rd overall one stroke behind Harvey and Austen, while freshman Riley Quillin (+12) was a stroke off of McDonough in a three-way tie for 36th.

One final regular season tournament separates the Warriors from the CCC Championships, as they'll participate in the Southern Oregon Spring Invite on April 7th and 8th at the Stone Ridge Golf Club.
