CORVALLIS, Ore. – The University of British Columbia softball team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for April 14 – April 20, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
British Columbia (18-16, 13-11 CCC) had a dominant five win week.
On Thursday, the Thunderbirds started with a 9-0, six inning victory over University of Providence. Sever led the Thunderbirds all around with three hits and two RBIs while also striking out nine batters to earn the shutout on the mound.
On Friday UBC completed a series sweep over Providence with 14-2 and 8-0 victories, both games lasted five innings. In the first game Kim led the Thunderbirds with two hits, three runs, and four RBIs while Murray got the win in the circle. In the second game Laird led the Thunderbirds with three hits and Sever got the shutout on the mound.
On Saturday British Columbia completed another series sweep over Carroll College with two more wins. In the first 2-1 victory Matsubara paced the Thunderbirds with two hits and Sever got another win on the mound. In the final 3-1 victory of the week, Nordquist led the Thunderbirds with three hits and Murray got the win in the circle. This final win secured UBC a spot in the postseason conference tournament.
Next weekend, British Columbia will host Corban University in its final regular season series.
