Top-ranked UBC leads through Round 1 of 3rd CCC tourney

EAGLE POINT, Ore.
 – The top-ranked British Columbia women’s golf team built an 18-stroke lead through Round 1 on Monday morning in the third of four Cascade Conference-counting tournaments, the Southern Oregon Spring Classic at Stone Ridge Golf Club.

The Thunderbirds shot 6-over collectively and produced five of the top-six individuals on the leaderboard, including first-place Sienna Harder. Harder carded an even 72 in the first round, birdying three holes, and has a one-stroke lead over teammate Elizabeth Labbe, who is competing as an individual.

Three more Thunderbirds are locked in a third-place tie at 2-over with Oregon Tech’s Quincy Beyrouty. She has the No. 17-ranked Owls in second place at 24-over, 14 strokes ahead of third-place Southern Oregon.

The Owls have a second golfer, Madison Dick, in the top-eight at 5-over. Keira Cheng leads SOU at 4-over in seventh place. Fourth-place Lewis-Clark State is one stroke back of the Raiders, paced by eighth-place Isabella Barquet (+5).

The second and final round is set for a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
