Bell, UBC win SOU Spring Classic

EAGLE POINT, Ore. – Grace Bell became the third different British Columbia women’s golfer to earn Cascade Collegiate Conference medalist honors this season, and the top-ranked Thunderbirds performed as advertised while closing out another team victory in the SOU Spring Classic on Tuesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club.

Bell, who was tied for third place after carding a 74 on Monday, turned in the low round of the tournament with a 68 in the second to finish 2-under, one stroke ahead of teammate Sienna Harder. She birdied six times on the day.

The Thunderbirds also had the third-place finisher in Elizabeth Labbe (+1), the fourth-place finisher in Una Chou (+2), Jessica Ng (+5) in a tie for fifth and Bo Brown (+14) in a tie for ninth. They went 4-over as a team – including 2-under in the second round – to beat second-place Oregon Tech by 49 strokes.

OIT’s Quincy Beyrouty, a medalist in each of the first two CCC-counting tournaments, tied Ng for fifth at 5-over. She’s been among the top-five in six of seven conference tourneys dating back to last season and was joined in the top-10 by teammate Madison Dick (+14).

Third-place Lewis-Clark State (+69) was led by Isabella Barquet (+11) in eighth individually. Keira Cheng (+6) was seventh for Southern Oregon (+78), which took fourth in the team standings.

The teams will meet again in the CCC Championship, April 21-23 in Portland.
