CORVALLIS, Ore. – Two record-breaking senior student-athletes have earned the Cascade Collegiate Conference’s top individual honor, as Corban University’s David Rubio and Southern Oregon University’s Abi Stevens have been selected as the 2024-25 CCC Male and Female Athletes of the Year by the conference’s athletic directors.
As a trailblazer for Warrior wrestling, David Rubio closed out his tremendous collegiate career in historic fashion, capturing the program’s first-ever NAIA individual national championship this past winter. At 157 pounds, the Salem, Ore., native reached his success after years of steady dominance on the mat and left as the most decorated wrestler in Corban history.
Rubio’s national title capped a five-year career filled with accolades, including four NAIA All-American honors, three appearances in the national finals, and three CCC individual weight class titles. He was voted the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the 2024 NAIA National Championship after outscoring his opponents 52-10 and not allowing a single offensive point throughout the tournament. Notably, he hasn’t surrendered a takedown in national competition over the past two seasons.
The CCC Wrestler of the Year ended his final season with a 26-4 record, including 21 bonus point victories and finished with 102 career wins, the most in program history. In addition to his dominance on the mat, Rubio earned multiple CCC Wrestler of the Week awards and was a CCC Academic All-Conference selection while also being named a two-time NWCA Academic All-American.
