ASHLAND, Ore. – The Bushnell volleyball team emerged as the only undefeated team at the Raider Invitational on Saturday, thanks to their third consecutive sweep to open the season, overwhelming Park-Gilbert, 25-11, 25-16, 25-10.
The Beacons (3-0) held the Buccaneers (0-3) to just a .038 attack percentage, including a defensive juggernaut of a third set in which Park had just three kills to go with eight attack errrors. Bushnell, meanwhile, had their most efficient offensive match thus far in 2025, hitting .337 with a 40-21 margin in kills, and a 9-0 advantage in service aces.
"This was a solid finish to the weekend," said Jason Corwin, who picked up his 196th career coaching victory. "We learned a lot about our depth this weekend and I am looking forward to our next opportunity to play."
Leah Agost led the way for the Beacons, collecting 10 kills and hitting .471 and earning team-leading numbers with seven digs and two blocks. Hailey Heider also had ten kills and seven digs while collecting a match-high three service aces. Agost and Julia Cook earned two aces apiece while Avery McCallister posted a match-best 18 assists.
"I am so proud of our team and how consistent we played this weekend," said Cook. "For the energy on and off the court, to our game play, we worked at our standard while running a new offense and we stayed mentally strong. All of our hard work throughout the preseason is paying off and it's only going to get better from here."
McCallister added, "We have been working hard in the preseason and it is showing up on the court. T has been fun to see our new system play out and I am excited for the rest of the season."
The Beacons will hit the road for Southern California next weekend, where they will compete for the first time in Hope International's Summer Slam, one of the premiere early tournaments in the NAIA. Bushnell will face off against Embry-Riddle and No. 23 The Master's University on Friday before closing against Benedictine-Mesa and the tournament hosts on Saturday.
