Newberg, Ore.| The Warner Pacific Men's Soccer team opened their non-conference schedule tonight with a 1-0 win on the road against George Fox University.
The game was a defensive battle especially in favor of the Knights who held George Fox to just four total shots including just one shot on goal. The Knights had 14 shots of their own with 6 of them going on a goal. The game got very interesting in the last few minutes starting with when George Fox looked to had scored the go-ahead goal with just over two minutes left in regulation, but the referees got together and waived it off mid celebration calling the Bruins for offsides. Not more than 30 seconds later, the Knights looked to had scored a goal of their own to go up 1-0 on a shot by Brian Canela but they were also called for offsides keeping the score knotted at 0-0.
After both teams thought they had scored the winning goal, the Knights finally broke through with 1:39 left on the clock on a shot sent in by junior transfer, Abraham Alvarez-Castro assisted by true freshman, Bryan Carmona. This put the Knights up 1-0 and they were able to play keep away and take the win when the horn sounded.
Junior, Jonathan Flores got his first start as a Knight in goal and was greeted by great Knights defense making life as easy as possible. Flores stopped the only goal that came his way and earned his first win as a college starting goalkeeper.
