Geoducks Take on Montana Tech and Taylor at Big Sky Challenge

BUTTE, Mont. -- The Evergreen State College opened the season by playing Montana Tech and Taylor University (Ind.) on Friday, Aug 22 at the 2025 Big Skky Challenge. Montana Tech defeated Evergreen 3-0. Taylor also won 3-0.

Montana Tech is hosting the Big Sky Challenge at the Butte Civic Center. Action will conclude on Saturday, Aug. 23, when the Geoducks will take on University of Providence (Mont.) at 9 a.m. MDT / 8 a.m. PDT and battle Carroll College (Mont.) at 1 p.m. MDT / 12 p.m. PDT.

Amaialyne Cepeda (Sr., DS/L) registered 14 digs for Evergreen againt Montana Tech. The Orediggers prevailed 25-15, 25-9, 25-15 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Evergreen ended the match at 0-1.

Zofia Formella (So., MB) led the Geoducks with five kills. Ashley Walker Campbell (Sr., OPP) added four kills. Ally Ainoa (Fr., OH/DS) provided Evergreen with six digs. Joy Miyazawa (So., S/DS) and Bright Brubaker (So., OPP) each supplied eight assists.

Talan Dodson topped the Orediggers with 10 kills, while Kinnidi Willmore tacked on seven kills. Emmy Green earned 19 digs and Sophie Madsen was credited with five block assists for Montana Tech. Rhys Layton contributed 14 assists and Ellie Reinertson finished with 13 assists.

In the match against Taylor, Formella led the Geoducks with 11 kills and earned a .409 hitting percentage. Taylor defeated the Geoducks, 25-17, 25-15, 25-16 to move to 5-0 on the season. Evergreen fell to 0-2.

Formella was followed on the attacking chart by Ainoa with seven kills and a .316 hitting percentage. Cepeda and Miyazawa each accumulated six digs for the Geoducks. Miyazawa led Evergreen with 15 assists. 

Reagan Salzbrenner of Taylor tied Formella with 11 kills. Ellie Frey provided the Trojans with 10 kills, while Daya Vestal tacked on nine kills. Margo Hernandez recorded 19 assists, while Lindsay Springer added 13 assists. McKaylah Flagle led Taylor with 10 digs.
