TACOMA, WASH. - The Northwest women’s soccer team began their season with a trip to the University of Puget Sound and took the win.
While this game is considered an exhibition to the Loggers, the Eagles took this matchup seriously.
As the first half transpired, the Loggers brought on a relentless attack with 11 shots, limiting the time of possession for the Eagles on the offensive side. However, goalkeeper Katie Snow stood strong and held her ground.
Early in the second half, Hailey Deese became the first Eagle this season to score a goal off a corner kick, assisted by Sara Becerra. The Loggers continued to press with a more aggressive style, accumulating more shots and committing more fouls, but the Eagles stood strong in the end.
“I am definitely excited to get the win today,” said Head Coach April VanAssche. “We came out a little bit slow in the first half. But one of the best parts about this team is our resilience and determination which was definitely seen in the second half! I’m proud of the team for how they came together to get the job done today! Looking forward to an amazing season ahead!”
The Eagles will travel down to Forest Grove, Oregon, for a matchup against Pacific University on Sunday at 12:00pm.
