CORVALLIS, Ore. – The College of Idaho Volleyball team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for August 18 – 24, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
The Yotes set off the 2025 season with a statement, posting three victories in two days at the Hope International Tournament in Fullerton, California. The team found itself ranked No. 4 in the CCC and No. 18 in the NAIA Preseason Polls.
C of I began its first game on Friday by upsetting No. 2-ranked Bellevue (Neb.), 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-12). After claiming the first set, C of I dropped the next two and faced elimination before storming back for the win. Brooke Garman tallied 15 kills, Mia Hutchinson added 13, and Cierra Bohrn tallied 11. Setter Shaynee McWilliams guided the attack with 39 assists and 13 digs while Libero Liza Montalbo steadied the defense with three aces and eight digs as the Yotes hit .309 as a team.
Later that evening, the Yotes once again showed their resilience in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-6, 25-18, 25-23) comeback win over Hope International. After dropping the opening frame, C of I dominated the second set and rode that momentum to the victory. Cora Young hit .636 with eight kills and Abigail Flerchinger added six kills and two blocks. Hutchinson contributed 10 kills, Garman added seven, and Montalbo anchored the back row with 14 digs. Keylee Wilson delivered three service aces as College of Idaho secured their second win of the day.
The following afternoon, C of I capped its perfect start with a dominant sweep of Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) (25-13, 25-15, 25-12). The Yotes were nearly unstoppable on offense, hitting .443 as a team while holding the Eagles to a -.080 percentage. Flerchinger led the way with nine kills on .500 hitting while adding two aces and a block. Kelsy Stanger hit .455 with six kills and Hutchinson swung .556 with five kills to close out the final defeat for C of I.
Next up, College of Idaho is headed to Nebraska next weekend to face more strong opponents in the College of Saint Mary Tournament.
