Forest Grove, Ore.| The Warner Pacific Knights Men's Soccer squad played their first non-conference game of the season under the lights against Pacific University and took home a commanding victory by a final score of 4-2.
The Knights didn't wait too long to break the ice when senior midfielder, Bodo Calderon struck pay pay dirt scoring an unassisted beauty just six minutes into the contest. It only took the WarnerPac 19 minutes after their first goal to tack on another when junior defender Jose Robles sent one to the back of the net assisted by senior, Bryan Sanguino. It was Robles' third goal in his Knights career.
The Knights really started to smell blood and a victory when they scored another goal just six minutes after the break. The goal was another unassisted goal this time put in by sophomore Abe Fuchs for his third goal in his young career as a Knight. WPU made some substitutions in the 60
th minute which was followed by Pacific's first goal of the game breaking up the shutout in the 66
th minute. The goal was sent in by Adam Landy assisted by Noah Gosch.
After giving up a goal, the Knights battled back and stole back their three-goal lead when Bodo Calderon sent in a penalty kick faking out second-string goalkeeper Henry Shattuck putting the ball in the right corner as Shattuck dove left. This was Calderon's second goal of the contest. Calderon led the team in goals with 12 last season so he is already off to a great start looking to build on that mark.
Give Pacific University credit as they never quit scoring another goal with 14 seconds left in the game to pull the score 4-2 making the game look more competitive than it was.
Warner Pacific had 14 shots tonight peppering the goal with 10 on goal, scoring 40% of them. Jonathan Flores started his first game as a Knight in his college career as a junior and gave up the two goals late in the contest and saved two Boxers shots. It was a relatively quiet night for Flores who only had to deal with four shots on goal.
