GLENDALE, ARIZ. - The Northwest University men’s soccer team fell early on to Arizona Christian University, 3-1.
Both teams strutted their offensive pressure. However, the Firestorm immediately jumped into the lead 25 seconds into the match off the foot of Josh Flanagan. The Eagles responded with aggressive plays and a heavy attack, mustering 17 shots to the Firestorm's 10, but remained scoreless in the first half.
It didn’t take the Firestorm long to get back in the driver seat in the second half. Jose Garcia bagged one in the 56th minute, and barely four minutes later, Flanagan got his second goal of the game. The Eagles were able to avoid a clean sheet with a last-minute goal from Matthew Ludlow off a penalty kick, which resulted from the Firestorm’s physical game.
“The way we came out and started the game tonight is not what we wanted,” said Head Coach Gary McIntosh. “We will learn from this game and get better. On to the next game Saturday.”
The Eagles will continue their Arizona tour with a matchup against Ottawa University Arizona on Saturday at 8:00 am.
