Wolves XC open season in Cheney

CHENEY, Wash. — The Walla Walla Cross Country team opened up the season with the Clash of the Inland Northwest race on Friday.

Isaac Acker had a personal best in the Men's 6K event with a time of 20 minutes and five seconds, good enough for 43rd place out of 103 racers. Ryan Rosaasen also recorded a personal record with a time of 20:46.5 to take home 61st place. Senior Ethan Heisler ran a 20:37 for 54th place.

Seth Huzel finished in 101st (24:05.7), Jordan Butcher crossed the line in 102nd (25:06.1) and Adrian Vera Preas placed 103rd (27:56.5). The Walla Walla Men's team finished in eighth place out of eight teams with a team score of 207.

"Our men's team clearly put in tremendous work over the summer and it showed in their performances today," head coach Brady Svilich said. Isaac Acker led the way with another big step forward from last season."

Liv Kreitner topped her run at the event last season by 37 seconds and took home a 49th place finish out of 75 racers with a time of 16:28.4. Freshman Cam Stam crossed the line in 69th (18:20.6).

Megan Rowland placed 71st (18:39.8), Maddie Ruiz took 72nd (19:49.1), Danika Larson completed the race in 73rd (20:00.7), Sasha Vaughan crossed in 74th (22:20.4) and Schy Safotu finished in 75th (23:49.1). The WWU women took eighth place out of eight teams with a team score of 230.

"On the women's side, we had some great first races that give us a strong foundation to build on as we move forward," Svilich said. "Kreitner was our top female finisher, showing tremendous improvement from last year and running an outstanding race."
