FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 31
st, 2025
Portland, Ore.| Warner Pacific Men's Soccer had their first home game of the season and unfortunately came up short losing to NCAA DII Saint Martins by a final score of 3-2.
It was a beautiful day for soccer as there were no clouds in the sky, and it was just under 80 degrees. Unfortunately, the Knights weren't quite able to take advantage of it and dug themselves an early hole allowing goals in the 28
th and 48
th minute. Calvin Boyal and Soren Hanson knocked in the first two goals of the game for the Saints putting them up 2-0 at halftime. The Knights came out of halftime and within six minutes finally put themselves on the board. A foul committed inside the box gave the Knights an opportunity to score with the clock stopped via penalty kick. Bodo Calderon who made a shot of that variety in game one against Pacific University, was chosen to step up and take it. Bodo cooly and calmly knocked it past Saints goalkeeper Connor Leistiko and put the Knights on the board.
Cole Sullivan of Saint Martins got back the goal they had lost in the 63
rd minute knocking in a penalty kick of his own stretching the lead out to 3-1. Déjà vu struck in the 72
nd minute when once again the Knights were fouled in the box and earned themselves another penalty kick. Once again Calderon was chosen and once again Calderon knocked it in. Bodo now has three penalty kicks knocked in on the young season and four total goals. He is on track to smash his total of 12 goals from last year.
Unfortunately, the Knights couldn't tie the match back up. Even though they had a few very good chances, they just couldn't knock one in to draw even. For the game, the Knights had 11 total shots including five on goal making two of them. Saint Martins had seven total shots including five on goal making three of them. The Knights did have a lot of chances via corner kicks, having 6 opportunities to just the one for the Saints. Jonathan Flores once again got the start in goal for the Knights this morning and gave up three goals and saved one. Connor Leistiko got the start in goal for SMU and gave up two goals and saving two shots.
