SURPRISE, ARIZ. - The Northwest men’s soccer team pulled off an offensive display against Ottawa University Arizona Saturday morning, winning 5-2.
Though the Eagles’ first game of the regular season did not go well against Arizona Christian University, they looked to rebound against the Spirit, who lost their first game to Southern Oregon on Thursday, August 28.
Ten minutes into the match, attacking midfielder Hudson French secured his first ever goal as an Eagle off a set piece. However the Spirit would get one three minutes later with a penalty shot taken by Jesus Torres.
Matthew Ludlow bagged a hat trick, with the first goal coming in four minutes after the Spirit’s first goal. His second goal came off towards the dying minutes of the first half, and his final goal came off the starting minutes of the second half, with Samuel Brendle coming in with the assist. Logan Anderson also bagged a goal in the 62nd minute, with an assist from Nick Rivera.
“Good win today,” said Head Coach Gary McIntosh. “The guys played well under tough conditions. Matt had a great game today finding the net three times; credit to the team for getting him the ball. Focus now shifts to the week of training ahead of us.”
The Eagles will get some rest before traveling down to Portland to play Lewis & Clark College on Saturday at 3:30 PM.
