SALEM, Ore. – The 2025 Hampton Inn Classic wrapped up competition this evening on Tim Hills Court, where the No. 3-ranked Corban University Women's Volleyball program finished as the only squad among the five in attendance to complete an unscathed weekend of matches following their three-set sweeps of RV Carroll College and No. 13-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University to improve to 6-1 on the young season. The Warriors dropped just a single set all weekend long and needed only six today to complete the undefeated three-game stretch on their home court.
"It was a great weekend of volleyball, and I'm really proud of how our team competed.," shared Warriors' head coach Kim McLain following their back-to-back sweeps tonight on Tim Hills Court. "We're continuing to grow each match and being pushed to get better every time we step on the court. Carroll College is a very well coached program, and earning a three-set win against them was a solid accomplishment. Oklahoma Wesleyan challenged us with their aggressive offense and strong defense, but our team set a goal to control the net and serve with purpose. I'm proud of how we stayed focused and committed to playing one point at a time. The determination and discipline we showed today are signs of our progress."
Match 1 – #3 Corban 3, (RV) Carroll 0
Serving aggressively and distributing the ball evenly across all attackers allowed the Warriors to take both contests against Carroll and Oklahoma Wesleyan, which began late in the opening set against the Saints when the Navy and Gold rattled off six-straight points to secure a 25-19 opening period win.
Every time Carroll pressed back, Corban would respond with double the number of points in their own run, most notably in the second set when the Warriors flipped a 4-0 deficit into a 10-5 advantage. Continuously increasing their kill percentage set-by-set, the Navy and Gold crushed a game-high 16 kills in their 25-14 second set victory on just 36 attempts while holding the Saints to only 14 kills across both the first and second sets combined.
Another 16-all tie in the third set was put to rest with a 6-0 Warrior run, with four of the six points being scored in favor of Corban coming off Carroll attacking errors and forcing the Saints into calling both of their timeouts in a two-point span. Senior opposite hitter Makayla Roginski plastered the final kill to the floorboards to clinch the first of two three-set sweeps for the Navy and Gold.
Roginski was the game-high kill leader with 15 more added to her top three mark within the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) and .352 season-long kill percentage, making her the only student-athlete in the conference to appear in the top five for total kills, kills per set, and kill percentage. Junior outside hitter Kendra Bittle added 11 kills with five digs, while junior outside hitter Emma Bischoff tacked on eight kills and 13 digs.
Senior setter Abby Guindy submitted the first of two double-double outings in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center tonight against the Saints, as she dealt out a game-high 23 assists and dug up 11 balls in the backcourt. Meanwhile, junior libero Kaile'a Ontai was all over the court defensively for Corban, as she managed to scoop up 23 digs in just three sets, along with a trio of service aces and assists.
Not a single Saint reached double-figures in kills tonight, with middle blocker Elizabeth Heizer leading the team at six kills and seven blocks. Starting setter Jansyn Carrizales secured 14 assists and eight digs, while libero Molly O'Connor was the only Carroll defender in double-digit dig count with 11 this evening.
Match 2 - #3 Corban 3, #13 Oklahoma Wesleyan 0
In the most highly anticipated matchup of the weekend at the Hampton Inn Classic, the Warriors responded to every challenge put forth by the No. 13-ranked Eagles with poise and determination, as they would trail in every set for multiple points before responding either on their own or following a Coach McLain timeout.
Trailing 18-15 in the opening set, Corban rallied for a 5-0 run that featured four crushing kills around the net and one of nine blocking plays for the match, eventually trading points back and force before Bischoff sealed the victory at 25-21 with a kill assisted by junior setter Nadeiah Howard.
In the second period, Ontai went on a serving spree early to distance her team by four points and hold the Eagles to their lowest offensive output of the evening, as they managed just eight kills on 26 attacks and five errors compared a game-high 17 team kills themselves.
With the storybook sweep all but clinched, the third set featured a dramatic comeback by the Warriors to flip a 14-11 deficit into 20-20 tie, which they then left zero doubt as the Hampton Inn Classic champions with five-consecutive points to conclude the match, with Roginski scoring on three of the final five points via kills or blocks.
Bischoff rebounded from a quiet match offensively against Carroll with a game-high 12 kills against OKWU, adding six digs in the backcourt while Roginski tallied 11 more kills herself. Sophomore middle blocker Addison Mills was a force to be reckoned with at the net for Corban tonight, as she was errorless on the night with five kills and six block assists, many of which came on free balls over the net.
Guindy's second double-double effort saw the San Jose, California native finish with 17 assists and 11 digs to lead the Navy and Gold in the backcourt, while Howard led the team with 18 dimes and seven digs defensively. Ontai saw her role shift lead towards the emergency setter position due to the Eagles refusing to challenge her in the backcourt, as she picked up nine digs and dished out eight assists.
While opposite hitter Evelyn Rohrberg managed nine kills against the Warriors, Corban's defensive presence at the net forced eight attacking errors as well to hold the Eagles' leading offensive threat to a .036 kill percentage, white outside hitter Maia Rubio and was contained for six kills and six errors while digging up ten balls defensively. Middle blocker Tijana Stojilikovic found the most consistent success for Oklahoma Wesleyan in tonight's match, picking up seven kills and five block assists. Libero Maria Luisa Caycedo was the backcourt leader with 19 digs, while all-around setter Sydney Collins was held to just 30 assists despite averaging over 12 dimes per set.
Next Wednesday, the Warriors will welcome RV Bushnell University (6-4) back to Tim Hills Court for the first CCC matchup across the Pacific Northwest, with first serve scheduled for 6pm.
