Eagles First Half Goal Enough For Win


LA GRANDE, ORE. - The Northwest University women’s soccer team concludes the Labor Day weekend with a shutout win over Park University Gilbert 1-0. 

 

The Eagles played Sunday morning against Doane University with a 2-0 win while the Pirates soundly defeated Nelson University on Saturday 4-1. 

 

15 minutes into the game, Megan Hurley baggied the games only goal as the ball pinballed around and Hurley depositing the loose change. The Eagles held the Pirates shotless throughout the first half while also managing 11 total shots themselves.

 

Katie Snow went back to work in the second half, stopping four shots on target as the Eagles kept up the offensive pressure. The Eagles also played a clean game with 6 fouls total with two of them coming from the second half. It was a complete game. 

 

“Our team is playing better each game,” said Head Coach April VanAssche. “I’m so proud of them for gritting out another game to get us a win, especially against another NAIA team. They really have shown that they can come together and close out these games! Very proud of my team for another shut out as well!” 

 

The Eagles will rest for the week and travel down to Portland on Saturday, Sept. 6 to face Lewis & Clark College at noon.
