Alston Nets Game-Winner, Corban Women’s Soccer Shutouts Simpson

SALEM, Ore. – Despite being outshot 17-4 on the day, the Corban University Women's Soccer program netted the only goal of the game in over a fourth the number of chances at the net, as the Warriors handed the visiting Red Hawks of Simpson University their second loss of the regular season and second shutout by a Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) member. Corban sophomore forward Maya Alston scored the game-winner in the 55th minute to clinch the Warriors' second win both in the non-conference slate and on their home turf.

"I'm really proud of the team for staying calm under pressure and taking advantage of the opportunities we created," commented Warriors' head coach Brooke Alteneder. "We stuck together, executed when it mattered, and earned a great result. It's always special to come away with a shutout at home in front of our fans."

An onslaught of offensive opportunities for the Red Hawks (1-2-1) finished unsuccessful on each chance downfield against the Warriors (2-2-0), as the Navy and Gold defense remained resilient throughout the entire 90 minutes of regulation. In addition to their 14-4 shot advantage and 5-2 shot on goal lead, Simpson also took eight more corner kick tries than Corban yet came up empty handed on each occasion.

Alston's second goal of the season and first game-winner of the year improved the Warriors to a home winning streak of two contests after defeating NCAA DIII Lewis & Clark College at the Outdoor Athletic Complex (OAC) less than two weeks ago. Alston's scoring opportunity came at the top of the penalty box in the 55th minute after a cross was nearly cleared by the Red Hawks, where she gathered and juked a pair of defenders for a 1-on-1 opportunity in front of the net, which she converted with ease.

Corban junior goalkeeper Ava Hayes picked up her first clean sheet of the season in a five-save effort, while Simpson goalkeeper Iris Van Dalfsen accepted her second loss of the season after allowing the lone goal to Alston and picking up a save. Red Hawks' forward Chloe Tague and midfielder Nadia Santiago led all players offensively with five shots apiece, while four different Warriors all logged one shot against Van Dalfsen.

The Warriors will play their final non-conference contest of 2025 on the road this upcoming Sunday, as they'll journey to Tacoma, Washington to battle NCAA DIII Pacific Lutheran University (0-2-2) at East Field.
