Corban Cross Country Programs Secure Pair of Top Five Team Finishes at Ash Creek Collegiate

MONMOUTH, Ore. – In just their second appearance of the 2025 regular season, the Corban University Men's and Women's Cross Country programs participated in the annual Ash Creek Collegiate festival this evening, which saw the Warrior women's squad earn a fourth place team finish while the No. 9-ranked men's team saw their reserves finish in fifth overall and both earned multiple top twenty individual finishers.

"I'm very happy with the way both our women and men competed today," explained Warriors' associate head coach Stuart Eagon. Regarding the women's performances, Coach Eagon shared, "This course was considerably slower than the first course we raced for a variety of reasons, yet Abby and Carrie still managed to run faster than in our first meet. We were without Shaelee and Kate today, and Anna had a bit of a rough time with sickness, but Josie and Amelia still showered improvement today. Adaline competed well after coming back from an injury last week. We have nine weeks to improve between now and the conference meet and having Shaelee and Kate will help us considerably once they are able to compete."

For the second-straight meet, senior Abigail Oosterhout was the top performer on the women's side, as she finished under the 19-minute mark at 18:55.9 in 13th place overall among the nearly 100 competitors. Sophomore Carrie Babcock (19:16.5) was just 21 seconds off Oosterhout's pace in 19th, while freshmen Adaline McDowell (21:02.9), Josephine Rothman (21:30.4), and Amelia Anstrand (21:40.1) rounded out the team scoring in 40th, 43rd, and 46th, respectively.

On the men's 6k outings, Coach Eagon said, "The men's race was comprised of our reserve squad once again, which is almost all freshmen with the exception of Talan and Jamin. I'm pleased with the performances across the field today, and it will be fun to have the whole men's team of 20+ guys compete together at Bush Park in three weeks."

A quintet of freshmen represented the Warriors' in the men's race team scoring this evening, with Samuel Bonsell earning a top twenty finish with his sub-20 mark of 19:45.6. Julius Pokorny (20:18.0) was next to cross the finish line for the Navy and Gold in 36th, followed by Kai Kearns (20:22.7) in 40th. All five of the team scoring finishers for the Warriors completed the race in the top 50%, as Ryder Britton (20:24.5) and Garrett Frongner (20:31.5) represented the fourth and fifth scorers in 43rd and 45th individually.

The Corban cross country programs will be back in action during the first weekend of October on Saturday the 4th, as they'll participate in the Willamette Invitational, hosted by NCAA DIII Willamette University, at Bush Park in downtown Salem.
