TACOMA, Wash. – The first goal of the season for junior midfielder Shaelee Killorn allowed the Corban University Women's Soccer program to pick up their second-consecutive 1-0 victory to close out their non-conference schedule for the 2025 fall season, as she scored in the 12th minute of their road matchup with NCAA DIII Pacific Lutheran University to pick up their third overall win on the year.
"I'm incredibly proud of the team today," expressed Warriors' head coach Brooke Alteneder earlier today. "Our hustle, hard work, and commitment to every possession made the difference. The way we moved the ball and trusted each other created opportunities all over the field. That unselfishness and energy is exactly how we want to play. This was a great end to non-conference as we move into league games next week."
Just eleven minutes and 39 seconds into the contest, Warriors' (3-2-0) freshman midfielder Sadie Schweitzer pursued a misplay by a Lutes' (0-2-2) defenseman deep in the PLU defensive half, with Killorn centering herself from the far right wing. With a defender hanging on her as well as the goalkeeper in position, Killorn simply toe-tapped the cross from Schweitzer past the dive of Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper Mia Speir for what would stand to represent the only scoring play of the contest.
Corban junior goalkeeper Ava Hayes worked furiously in front of the net to pick up her second-consecutive clean sheet of the week, as she registered five saves across the complete 90 minutes of fulltime to secure a third win in goal thus far. With Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play scheduled to begin later this week, Hayes is the current saves leader with 30 across five matches while allowing on average just one goal per contest and making saves on 85.7% of all shots on goal.
Killorn was one of three Warriors to take a shot on goal this afternoon, with sophomore forward Maya Alston representing one of three student-athletes on the day with two shots in total. Lutes' forward Abby Manolovitz and midfielders Jadyn Jones and Keara Saks each registered two shots apiece for the hosts, while Spier accepted her first loss on the year with three saves made.
With the non-conference portion of their schedule now in the rearview mirror, the Warriors will turn their attention to conference action, which begins this upcoming Saturday, September 20th in Great Falls, Montana against the University of Providence (0-1-2, 0-0-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm MT/12pm PT at Argo Field.
