Penalty Kick Seals Warriors’ Fate in Sunday Night Matchup with NCAA Bruins

NEWBERG, Ore. – A 57th-minute penalty kick goal stood to be the difference between the Corban University Men's Soccer team and sharing a point on the road against NCAA DIII George Fox University, as the Bruins were able to escape and hang on late for the narrow 1-0 victory at the Austin Sports Complex in the Warriors' penultimate non-conference contest of the 2025 regular season. This marks the second result in five regular season matchups that the Navy and Gold have dropped a 1-0 decision on the road to an NCAA DIII program due to a penalty kick try for the hosts.

A scoreless first half saw the visiting Warriors (1-4-0) outperforming the host Bruins (2-1-1) in every facet of the game, as they registered eight shots in total with three coming on goal, while GFU managed just three shots, all of which sailed wide of the netting. Corban held eight corner kick opportunities throughout a busy offensive possession first half yet came away empty on each of their numerous looks both inside and outside the penalty box.

That trend would continue throughout the entire contest, yet in the 57th minute, the Bruins would be given a penalty kick try after Warriors' redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Callum Thompson was called for a foul making a play on a loose ball at the top of the box. Despite getting a hand on the shot, Thompson saw the ball squeeze past for the only goal of the contest.

Corban nearly doubled up George Fox in every statistical category, including shots (15-8), shots on goal (5-2), and corner kicks (10-4). The two Willamette Valley programs split the foul calls down the middle at 11-11, while three Warriors received yellow cards compared to just one Bruin.

Sophomore defender Alexander Guindy led all players in shots (4) and shots on goal (2), as he was the first to launch an attempt within the first two minutes of the contest. Sophomore forward Zachary Milczarek attempted three shots of his own and tied Guindy with two shots on goal.

Bruins' forward Eugene Peltier took the penalty kick for GFU and scored despite Thompson's best efforts, eventually leading the home team in shots with just a pair in 61 minutes played. Goalkeeper Chase Nelson received the winning decision with five saves and a shutout counting towards his seasonal record.

Next Saturday, the Warriors will host their final NCAA DIII opponent of the 2025 season in what will also represent their final non-conference tune-up prior to the start of Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play, as Lewis & Clark College (0-2-1) will visit the OAC for a 11am kickoff at the foot of Corban's campus.
