Zimmerman and Juarez Score Goals in 2-0 Win Over Providence

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Alec Zimmerman (Sr., F) and Kolby Juarez (Sr., M) each scored a goal in the final five minutes of the first half for The Evergreen State College, as the Geoducks registered a 2-0 victory over the University of Providence (Mont.) in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer game on Thursday, Oct. 1. The Geoducks upped their record to 3-3-3, including 1-3-1 in the CCC. Providence dropped to 2-4-1 overall, 2-2-1 in the CCC.

The game was played at Geoducks Pitch. Evergreen is 3-1-3 at home this season.

Zimmerman scored the opening goal at 40:31 on a 23-yard shot toward the left post. Elliot Falor (So., M) provided an assist on the play. Juarez tallied Evergreen's second goal just over two minutes later on a free kick from 25 yards, as he sent the ball into the middle of the net at 42:44.

Evergreen achieved an 18-4 advantage in total shots, with a 9-3 edge in the first half and a 9-1 margin in the second half. The Geoducks held a 7-0 lead in shots on target. Evergreen earned nine corner kicks and limited the Argos to just two corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Tom Cole (Sr.) of Evergreen played all 90 minutes and was credited with the shutout. Cole did not earn a save as the Geoducks prevented Providence from recording a shot on target. Teddy Benbow played the first 44:10 in goal for the Argos and contributed three saves but had to leave the game with an injury. Andrew Shoenen replaced Benbow in goal and made two saves during the remainder of the game.

Zimmerman, Angel Sandoval (Jr., F), and Luca Viana (Jr., F) each took three shots for the Geoducks. Zimmerman sent two of his shots on target. Juarez finished with two shots and placed both shots on target. Geovanni Lugo topped the Argos with two total shots.

Up next for Evergreen is a CCC matchup with Corban University at Geoduck Pitch on Friday, Oct. 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. PDT.
