Autumn Apana-Purcell's Brace Pushes Argos Past Geoducks

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The University of Providence women's soccer program defeated The Evergreen State College 2-0 Thursday afternoon.

The Argos (3-5) had the first opportunity of the game when sophomore Aurora Eastburn found junior Andriah Watson ahead of the defense, but her shot was saved by the Geoducks (0-5-2) goalkeeper.

Both teams went back-and-forth over the next 20 minutes until the 23rd, when freshman Jaelyn Chandonnet found sophomore Autumn Apana-Purcell just outside the box and her strike went top corner to put UP ahead 1-0.

The Argos continued their momentum into the 34th minute when a free kick from Apana-Purcell went off the crossbar and in to extend the UP lead to two.

Each side had opportunities over the final 55 minutes with the Geoducks producing eight shots to the Argos seven, but neither team could find the back of the net as junior goalkeeper Chloe Pajaro completed the shutout in the Argos 2-0 victory over The Evergreen State College.

The Argos will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3 when they head to Kirkland, Wash. for a matchup versus Northwest University.
