GREAT FALLS, Mont. - Mitch Cameron scored less than three minutes into the second half, and the College of Idaho made it stand for a 1-0 conference win over Providence on Thursday afternoon.
The Yotes (4-5-5, 4-2-4) held the edge in territory most of the day, outshooting Providence 10-5 and taking all eight corner kicks in the match.
Neither side found much in a scoreless first half. Alfie Roffey sent a shot wide at 15:19, and Jake Anderson put a header over the bar a minute later. Providence's best look came at 17:43, when Gavin Bebbington forced a save from CI goalkeeper Ben Anderson. It was the only shot on target the hosts managed all afternoon.
CI broke through at 47:50, when Rodri Garcia-Marina set up Cameron for the only goal of the match.
The Yotes kept the pressure on after that. Cameron tested Providence keeper Thomas Sine again at 69:55, and Garcia-Marina pulled a shot wide right six seconds later. Roffey then delivered three corners in just over two minutes, and Alejandro Cortes drew another save from Sine at 81:55. Providence took three shots in the second half and put none on goal.
Cameron finished with a team-high three shots, two on target. Garcia-Marina added the assist and two shots. Roffey took six of CI's eight corners, and Ben Anderson went the full 90 minutes for the clean sheet, making one save.
