Anderson’s Grand Slam Ignites Yotes’ Desert Sweep

MESA, Ariz. - On the third day of its Arizona road trip, the College of Idaho broke through with its first series sweep of the season, rolling past Park-Gilbert 11-1 and 10-5 on Saturday at Mesa Community College.

The Yotes struck early in the opener, scoring twice in the first inning and adding four more in the second to take full control of an eventual run-rule win. Drew Williams limited Park-Gilbert to three hits over five innings, striking out six with just one walk. Chloe Flerchinger drove in three runs on a pair of singles, Kamryn Ham went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Audrey Sweet opened the scoring in the second with a solo home run. Olivia Asumendi added two hits and an RBI as the Yotes surged to an 11-1 lead by the fourth inning. Park-Gilbert's lone run came on a second-inning homer from Bri Titus.

College of Idaho carried its momentum straight into Game 2, pounding out 15 hits in a 10-5 victory. Freshman catcher Marti Anderson, making her collegiate debut, delivered the defining moment of the day with a grand slam to center in the fourth inning, stretching the Yotes' lead to 9-3. Madelyn Powell continued her early-season tear, finishing 4-for-5 with five RBIs and falling a triple short of the cycle. She launched a three-run homer in the third, doubled home a run in the fourth and singled in another in the seventh.

Grace Neer earned the win with six innings of work, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Rylee Smith handled the seventh, navigating two baserunners to close out the sweep. Park-Gilbert cut the deficit to 9-5 in the sixth, but the Yotes answered with a run in the seventh and held firm defensively.

The sweep lifted the College of Idaho to 4-2 on the season, while Park-Gilbert fell to 3-5.
