Yotes Rally Big, Run-Rule Providence

CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho stormed back from a six-run deficit in the opener, then rolled through the second game to complete a dominant sweep of University of Providence (Mont.) on Saturday at Symms Field, winning 9-7 and 10-0.

Providence appeared in control early in Game 1, building a 7-1 lead through five innings. But the Yotes' offense erupted late, beginning with a fifth-inning spark from freshman Isabella Fazzio, who ripped a two-run triple to right and came home on an error to slice the margin to 7-4. The momentum carried into the sixth, where singles by Madelyn Powell and Kayla Vahlberg set the table for a five-run outburst. Powell's RBI single pulled the Yotes within two, and catcher Hallie Campbell followed with the game's biggest swing, drilling a three-run double to left-center to give the Yotes their first lead. Senior Ysabella Villegas added a run-scoring single to make it 9-7, completing an eight-run surge.

Freshman left-hander Athena Little earned her first collegiate win, shutting down Providence over the final 2? innings with one hit and one strikeout. Powell finished the opener with two hits and two runs, Watts reached base four times, and Ham chipped in two hits from the leadoff spot.

The Yotes carried that energy straight into Game 2, scoring three times in the first and never looking back. Powell stayed hot, finishing 3-for-3 with four RBI, including a two-run homer in the third and run-scoring singles in both the first and fourth innings. Campbell added a solo home run and scored twice, while Watts reached twice and drove in a run. Ham crossed the plate two more times and stole a base.

Freshman outfielder Grace Leedom notched a milestone with her first collegiate hit, a solid single up the middle in the second inning, and later swiped her first base.

Right-hander Rylee Smith was in full command, tossing a two-hit shutout with three strikeouts in the run-rule victory, improving to 3–0 on the year.

With the sweep, College of Idaho improved to 11-3 and continued its surge toward the start of Cascade Conference play.
