KANSAS CITY, Mo. - College of Idaho senior outfielder Madelyn Powell led the Yotes to two wins over top-ranked Eastern Oregon last week, batting .571 with six extra-base hits and a dozen RBIs to claim weekly NAIA softball recognition as the Player of the Week honoree for March 24.
Powell and the Yotes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the series on March 20 with an 8-7 win, followed by a 9-1 victory, and on March 20, Powell was 4-for-7 with three home runs and nine RBIs. Powell delivered in the biggest moments with a two-run home run in the opener and followed with a three-run homer and grand slam in the run-rule victory to clinch the opening doubleheader.
March 21, the College of Idaho dropped a pair of games to EOU, but that didn't stop Powell from delivering numbers, again 4-for-7, including a two-double, two-RBI series finale with a pair of RBIs and a home run.
On the week, she hit four home runs, added two doubles, drove in 12 and scored six runs across four games. She posted a 1.571 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage without a strikeout in 15 plate appearances. She is currently third in the NAIA in RBIs, the only CCC player ranked in the top five across all batting categories. The team also leads the NAIA in home runs, currently four ahead of second place.
The Yotes have six games on the slate this week, including a four-game weekend set in the Cascade Collegiate Conference against Warner Pacific University.
