YPSILANTI, Mich. – Isabella Barquet played one of the best rounds of her career on the biggest stage and Giulia Belfontali provided the highlight of the day with a hole-in-one to open the 2026 NAIA Women's Golf Championship. The Warrior women are tied for ninth after the first 18 holes at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Mich., and Barquet sits in a tie for second individually.
LC State took the course a day late after weather delayed the first round of the tournament. The national championship has been shortened to three rounds due to the weather.
"It was nice to finally be able to play some golf after some rough weather the past two days," coach Zach Anderson said. "The women did a lot of things well today. Definitely some things to clean up if we want to be playing after the cut but I am confident in our ability to reset and give ourselves a chance to move up the leaderboard. It's an awesome feeling to know you are right in this tournament and competing for a national championship. Side note, what a cool thing to have Giulia make a hole-in-one at the national championship. Memory of a lifetime."
Barquet is two strokes off the lead after a round of 2-over. The junior was consistent with just three bogies and a birdie on the day to put herself in a five-way tie for the second spot overall.
Jane Barry also holds a spot in the top 50 in a tie for 32
nd. The sophomore shot 5-over with a pair of birdies, including one on 18 to end her first day on the course.
Belfontali was one of two players to ace a hole on the day and did so on par-3 hole No. 6. She is tied for 70
th through her first round with a score of 8-over. Freshman Taylor Mire is one stroke back in a tie for 82
nd at 9-over.
Senior Dallis Shockey rounded out the group and also sits in the top 100 in a tie for 95
th. She is one stroke back of Mire at 10-over.
