SOU locks up Life Pacific in season-opening win

AZUSA, Calif. – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team picked up on Saturday night where it left off last fall with a shutout victory, taking a 2-0 decision from Life Pacific (Calif.) in the 2026 opener at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

Sophomore midfielder Macie Yannoni scored a precision goal in the eighth minute and SOU benefited from an own goal in the 64th while denying the Warriors any life on their attacking side. LPU, which secured a 3-0 upset of No. 23 Westcliff (Calif.) three days earlier, mustered only two on-target shot attempts.

The Raiders were missing a few key players due to injury and started four freshmen. Yannoni settled them down early, taking an assist from Tori Lasch as she struck from 20 yards deep with a left-footed chip shot that arched over the head of keeper Natalie Retama and into the net.

The own goal was created by freshman Ella Anguiano, who, near the sideline, served a ball into the box that deflected off the leg of a defender and in.

Redshirt-freshman Ashlyn Fuss faced five shots and made two saves to preserve SOU's shutout. Dating back to last year, it was the Raiders' fifth consecutive regular-season clean sheet.

Brycelin Endrikat and Brooklyn Hayes accounted for SOU's only other shots on goal.

LPU fell to 1-1-1.

The Raiders visit the aforementioned Westcliff at 10 a.m. Monday. That matchup precedes their trip next Thursday to No. 3 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.).
