CORVALLIS, Ore. – No. 18-ranked College of Idaho volleyball has been named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Team of the Week after extending its season-opening winning streak to seven matches at the I-84 Classic in Nampa, Idaho.
The Yotes went 3-0 at the weekend tournament, including a pair of four-set victories and a five-set comeback, to improve to 7-0 on the season. The undefeated start is College of Idaho's best since 2017, when the Yotes opened the year 9-0 and advanced to the NAIA National Quarterfinals.
College of Idaho opened Friday with a 3-1 victory over The Master's, winning the first two sets before closing out the match in a tightly contested fourth set. Keylee Wilson paced the offense with 12 kills, while Alexa Wheeler added 10 kills on a .400 hitting percentage. Shaynee McWilliams orchestrated the attack with 37 assists and added 17 digs.
The Yotes then rallied past Montana Western in a five-set battle, 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 15-10. Wheeler led College of Idaho with 16 kills on .333 hitting, while Kelsy Stanger added 14 kills and Jessica Stires recorded 12. McWilliams contributed 47 assists, 12 digs and two aces, while Avery Lewis anchored the defense with 19 digs.
College of Idaho closed the tournament Saturday with another strong performance, defeating Dickinson State in four sets, 25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 25-11. The Yotes responded to the second-set loss by hitting .257 in the third and .385 in the fourth while holding Dickinson State to a .035 attacking percentage.
Stires led the way with 11 kills, while Bohrn and Wheeler each added 10. Bohrn hit .364 and recorded eight block assists, while Wheeler finished with nine block assists and a solo block. McWilliams tallied 44 assists, and Lewis recorded a team-high 21 digs.
The Yotes' 7-0 start has them ranked No. 18 nationally as they continue to build momentum toward the start of Cascade Conference play. They start the CCC season next weekend on the road against Northwest University and the Evergreen State College.
