KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Former University of British Columbia golf coach Chris MacDonald has been inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame, recognizing a career defined by championship success, student-athlete development and lasting contributions to collegiate golf.
MacDonald guided the UBC Thunderbirds to seven women’s NAIA Golf Championships and two men’s NAIA Golf Championships during his tenure. His teams also captured 18 Golf Canada Canadian University/College Championships on the women’s side and nine men’s titles.
Under MacDonald, UBC dominated the Cascade Collegiate Conference, winning both the men’s and women’s CCC Championships in all five seasons in which the Thunderbirds competed in the conference. UBC also collected victories in NCAA Division I competition, further establishing the program among the top collegiate golf programs in North America.
MacDonald’s impact extended beyond team championships, with UBC Golf producing more than 80 All-Canadians during his tenure. A nine-time Coach of the Year, MacDonald was also honored with the Dave Williams Award as the NAIA’s Top Coach in 2008 and 2023.
Off the course, MacDonald played an instrumental role in fundraising for the UBC golf program and Thunderbird Golf Society, supporting player scholarships, coaching resources and competitive opportunities.
Through his championship success, commitment to student-athletes and dedication to growing the sport, MacDonald helped elevate the visibility and credibility of NAIA golf while leaving a lasting legacy at UBC. His leadership, sportsmanship and character continue to be hallmarks of his coaching career.
