KANSAS CITY, Mo - The defensive effort of Cora Young helped propel College of Idaho to another undefeated week, as the senior middle blocker has been named the PrestoSports NAIA Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week.
Young was a force at the net in a pair of victories that helped the Yotes improve to 11-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Emmett, Idaho native totaled 16 blocks in nine sets, averaging 1.78 blocks per set, while also contributing 16 kills and posting a team-best .300 hitting percentage among the team’s primary offensive contributors.
The senior opened the week with a standout performance in a four-set victory over Oregon Tech. Young recorded 10 kills on a .348 attacking percentage and added five block assists, helping College of Idaho secure the win that established a program-record 10-0 start to the season.
She followed that effort with an even stronger defensive showing against No. 18 Southern Oregon. In the five-set victory, Young totaled 11 block assists, averaging 2.20 blocks per set, while adding six kills. Her presence at the net played a critical role in limiting one of the nation’s top teams and preserving the Yotes’ unbeaten record.
Across both matches, Young committed just four attacking errors on 40 swings and was a consistent presence on both sides of the ball. Her 16 total blocks anchored a College of Idaho defense that continued its impressive start to the season, while her efficient offensive production provided an added boost in key moments.
With Young leading the way at the net, the Yotes remained undefeated and strengthened their position among the NAIA’s top teams, collecting victories over Oregon Tech and nationally ranked Southern Oregon during a pivotal conference weekend.
