KANSAS CITY, Mo - University of British Columbia’s Jake Houston, a junior from Pointe-Claire, Quebec, is the NAIA Men’s Golfer of the Week for Sept. 16 after establishing a new Cascade Collegiate Conference 54-hole record to win the Oregon Tech Fall Invitational last week in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Houston led the Thunderbirds to a team title by four strokes and claimed his first individual title of 2026-27 by three, making 21 birdies over 54 holes to finish 15-under par in the event at The Running Y Ranch Resort.
Eight of those 21 birdies came in the opening 18 holes, where Houston started with birdies at No. 16 and No. 17, part of five birdies in his first seven holes on the way to a first-round 67 (-5). He also started the second round on No. 16 and birdied No. 17 for the second time. That started a second round that saw Houston go 7-under for his first 12 holes, posting six birdies on the front nine to shoot 30.
He closed the round in 66 (-6), putting himself in the final group for the third round.
Houston began the final round of the event with a bogey but followed with eight pars before a birdie at No. 9 to open the last round even par at the turn. Birdies at No. 11 and No. 12 followed and he went back to his favorite duo of holes late, making birdie at No. 16 and No. 17 to shoot 32 on the back nine, 68 for the day (-4) and 15-under for the event.
UBC is back in action to begin the final week of September, taking part in the Western Washington Invitational at Bellingham Golf and Country Club in Bellingham, Washington.
